MOXI®

About MOXI® and How Does it Work?

MOXI® is a non-invasive, skin resurfacing treatment that uses fractional laser technology to target and improve skin tone, texture, and overall appearance. The treatment works by delivering controlled energy to the skin, creating tiny micro-injuries in the deeper layers of the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, encouraging the production of new, healthy skin cells. MOXI® is designed to address a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, and enlarged pores, with minimal downtime. It is suitable for all skin types and can be customized to meet individual needs, whether you're looking for a light refresh or a more intensive rejuvenation.

What Are MENDS?

MENDS, or “Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris” are tiny dark spots that can appear on the skin after a MOXI® treatment. These spots are a result of the laser energy targeting and breaking down pigmented areas or sunspots on the skin. After treatment, the pigmented cells are absorbed by the body, and the MENDS will darken before flaking off over the next several days. This process is a normal part of the healing and skin rejuvenation cycle. As the MENDS flake away, they reveal smoother, more even-toned skin underneath, contributing to the overall rejuvenation effect of the MOXI® treatment.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

The treatment duration can range from as little as 15 minutes, depending on the area you're treating and the specific procedure. Treatment time can vary for each individual.

What Happens During the Procedure?

During the treatment, your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may feel a brief warm sensation as the light targets specific areas of your skin. A topical numbing cream may be applied 30-45 minutes before the Moxi treatment to ensure your comfort. Your technician will explain all your options, including the benefits, potential risks, and what to expect throughout the process.

What Should I Expect After the Treatment?

Immediately after treatment, you can expect some redness. In some cases, treated spots may darken initially, followed by fading and flaking off over time. Moxi works by creating micro-coagulation zones in your skin, which the body naturally repairs, replacing damaged cells with healthier, more vibrant skin. Results will vary based on your skin type, the number of treatments, and the area treated. Your technician will give you detailed aftercare instructions and information on expected results.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

Most people can wear makeup 24 hours after the treatment, and the recovery time typically takes 2-4 days.

What Aftercare Is Needed?

Your aftercare routine is simple: apply a moisturizing physical sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Stay out of direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily if you’ll be outside.

    Discontinue Certain Products:

Stop using retinoids (Retin-A, retinol, tretinoin), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or any other exfoliating or harsh skin products for 5-7 days before your treatment.

Avoid using self-tanners on the area to be treated for 2 weeks.

Stop Medications: If you’re on any antibiotics or photosensitizing medications, consult with your healthcare provider as these may increase sensitivity to light. It’s best to discontinue them 1 week before your treatment if possible.

No Waxing or Hair Removal: Refrain from waxing, threading, or using hair removal creams on the treatment area for 2 weeks before your session. Shaving is allowed.

Clean Skin: Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Do not apply any lotions, creams, oils, or deodorants to the treatment area on the day of your appointment.

Avoid Alcohol & Caffeine: Try to limit alcohol and caffeine intake for 24 hours prior to your treatment to reduce redness and inflammation.

Health Conditions: If you have a history of cold sores, inform your provider as you may need an antiviral prescription prior to treatment to prevent outbreaks.

  • Wear SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure for at least 1-2 weeks after treatment to protect your skin.

Expect mild redness and warmth, like a light sunburn, for a few hours after the procedure.

Keep your skin hydrated by using a gentle moisturizer and avoid harsh or exfoliating products.

You may experience mild flaking as the skin renews, but refrain from picking or scrubbing the treated area.
